Henry Rissman, 86, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, December 28, 2008, at Thornton Manor in Lansing, IA. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 31st, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Friends may greet the family for an hour before the service and again following the service at the church on Wednesday.
Henry Charles Rissman was born on November 5, 1922. He and his sister came as young children from the eastern US and were both adopted by William and Kathleen (Jermeier) Rissman. He grew up on their rural Lansing farm, attended rural elementary school and graduated from Waukon High School. On June 3, 1942 Henry married Bette Jean Orr in Waukon. They farmed together in Lansing Township for many years, operating a dairy herd and raising hogs and crops. Henry also worked some handling livestock for area sale barns. In 1993 they retired and moved to Waukon.
Henry was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, and also a member of the Lansing Rural Fire Board and Lansing Ridge Cemetery Board. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting whatever was in season at the time. He also liked spending time with family and friends and playing euchre.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandy (Jim) Hosch of New Albin, IA; 7 grandchildren, Mike (Peggy) Rissman of Michigan, Tim (Shannon) Rissman of Cedar Rapids, IA, Daryl Hosch of Minneapolis, MN, Kristie (Brad) Reierson of Elgin, IA, Jim (Kathy) Hosch of New Albin, IA, Nikki (Ron) Konkel of Caledonia, MN and Brent Hosch of New Albin, IA; 12 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Helen (Richard) Hainesworth of Stoddard, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bette, who died November 13, 2008; a son, Donnie Rissman; and a sister, Ruth Duvel.
