Henry Junior Miene was born on October 9, 1932 in Postville, IA, the son of Henry Sr. and Ella (Ehde) Miene. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville, confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, and attended rural Allamakee County Schools. Henry was a farmer all of his life. He began right after school by farming with his parents. On August 22, 1956 he married Carol Elaine Engen at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. They continued to farm where Henry spent most of his youth, operating a Holstein dairy herd and producing Grade A milk for which they won numerous county dairy awards. In 1994 they quit milking and raised beef cattle until moving to Waukon in 1998. For the past several years, Henry has done some transfer driving for Torkelson Motors in Waukon and worked at the Allamakee County Recycling Center.
Henry was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he served regularly as an usher and was often involved with special improvement projects. He was also a member of Allamakee County Farm Bureau and Rivers and Bluffs Classic Tractor Club of Northeast Iowa. Henry spent considerable time restoring 2 Allis Chalmers tractors and loved to go to Allis Chalmers functions to visit with other enthusiasts. He liked being outside working in the yard and planting and tending trees. Working jigsaw puzzles, listening to country music and taking drives through the local countryside were other favorite pastimes. Henry enjoyed people and loved to visit with friends and neighbors, either at community events or when they came to the house for a visit.
Survivors include his wife Carol of Waukon as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dean Henry Miene; 2 brothers, Herbert and Irvin Miene; and 3 sisters, Margaret Klocke, Viola Olson and infant sister Gertrude.
