Helen L. Bergh, 88, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 17th, at 11:00 am at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Rev. Kris Snyder officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services on Tuesday at the church.

Helen Lenora Bergh was born January 23, 1921 on the family farm in Jefferson Township, rural Waukon, IA. She was the daughter of Alfred H. and Bella Julia (Fossum) Bergh. She was baptized and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church rural Waukon and attended the Jefferson #1, "Stadsvold", rural school. Helen was a caregiver to her parents and her brother Harry for many years. She lived on the home farm most of her life, where she raised chickens and sold eggs. In 2005 she moved to Makee Manor and for the past year has been a resident of Northgate Care Center.

Helen was a lifetime member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in choir, ladies aid and circles. She enjoyed quilting, needlework, taking care of her flower gardens and her dogs, which were usually collies.


Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Lester and June Knudtson of La Crosse, WI, Carol Knudtson of Wheatland, IA, David and Sandra Johnson amd Loren Johnson, all of Elkhorn, WI, and Lois Johnson of Cary, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Grace Knudtson and Alva Johnson; a brother, Harry Bergh; and a nephew, Everett Knudtson.

Casketbearers are Scott and Brandan Knudtson, Bill Jarrell, Arlyn Fossum, John Prestemon, and Bill Steffenson.
