Hazel H. Rissman, 92, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, March 3, 2017, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6th, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon with burial in Lansing Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is handling arrangements.
Hazel Helen Rissman was born May 11, 1924, in Ludlow Township, rural Waukon, IA, on the farm of her parents, Clarence and Alvina (Nagel) Klocke. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville, attended Ludlow # 7 country school, and Waukon High School. Hazel worked as a hired girl for Amanda Stock and Bernice Clark. On November 4, 1943, she married Harvey Rissman at Bethlehem Presbyterian Parsonage. They farmed together in Makee Township before moving into Waukon in 1980. She also worked for the Allamakee School District as the head baker for 13 years and at Northern Engraving. Hazel moved to Evergreen assisted living in 2015.
Before moving to Waukon, she was a member of Lansing Ridge Church, where she was active in ladies aid and taught Sunday school. When Lansing Ridge Church closed, she became a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was active in Rachel Circle, served as a deacon, and was an elder. Hazel was also a member of Thursday Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and a volunteer at Veterans Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, picking berries, baking, following the Waukon Indians, especially her grandchildren's activities, watching the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Survivors include her children: Gloria (Ken) Krambeer, Allan (Fern) Rissman, and Wayne (Deb) Rissman all of Waukon; five grandchildren: Brian (Jean) Krambeer, Brad (Becky) Krambeer, Colby (Amy) Rissman, Nick (Lori) Rissman, and Amber Rissman; nine great-grandchildren: Ben, Charlie, Konnor, and Kaitlyn Krambeer, Emma, Elyse, Raelynn, Olivia, and Carter Rissman; four sisters: Darlene (Neil) Barth of Waukon, Carol Weiland of Cedar Rapids, Angela Kula of Waukon and Linda (Robert) Thompson of Waterville. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harvey who died in 1996; a grandson Adam Lee Rissman; a brother Niel Klocke; and two siblings in infancy: Walter and Betty.
Honorary casketbearers are Kaitlyn Krambeer, Carter, Elyse, Emma, Olivia, and Raelynn Rissman, and her Evergreen family. Casketbearers are Brian, Brad, Ben, Konnor and Charlie Krambeer, and Nick, Amber, and Colby Rissman.
