Harriet S. Duggan, 95, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, August 9, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14th, at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, IA, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 4:00 PM scripture service and a 5:30 PM American Legion Auxiliary service.

Harriet Sarah Duggan was born November 21, 1913 in the West Ridge area rural Waukon, IA, the daughter of Daniel J. and Margaret (Gavin) Curtin. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist West Ridge Catholic Church and graduated form Waukon High School in 1932. On July 11, 1938 she married Clare F. Duggan in Clermont, IA. Harriet and Clare owned and operated the S & D Cafe for 27 years from 1944 until they retired in 1971. She has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center since 2007. Harriet was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Waukon Golf and Country Club and Elks Club in Decorah, IA. She enjoyed golfing, cooking, sewing, playing cards and doing volunteer work.

Survivors include her children, Thomas of Waukon, Mary Jane Maly of Decorah, Donald of Monona, IA and Michael and friend Michael Mann of Seattle, WA; 5 grandchildren, Lance Maly, Michelle Maly Hanson, Sean Duggan, Emily and Callie Duggan; and 7 great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Luke Maly, Sophie and Elsa Hanson, Delaney, Reese and Clare Duggan.


She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clare who died in 1984; a son-in-law, Phil Maly, a daughter-in-law, Charlene Duggan; 2 sisters, Mary Curtin and Francis Wellendorf and 1 brother, Daniel Howard Curtin.

Honorary casketbearers are Walter and Gloria Larson, Chuck and Fran Luther and Dick and Jean Roggensack. Casketbearers are Bob, Jim and Dan Wellendorf, Jim Fossum, Jim Ronan and Terry Kolsrud.
