Harlan G. Hermeier, 79, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at his home in rural Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4th, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Harlan George Hermeier was born on February 22, 1933 in Waukon, IA, the son of Edward and Ella (Miller) Hermeier. He was baptized at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Harlan graduated from Waukon High School in 1952 and served in the US Army from 1953 - 1955 during the Korean War. He started farming in Makee Township in 1955. On June 30, 1962 he married Margaret Anderson at her parents home in rural Waterville, IA. She then joined him in farming; they milked dairy cows and raised beef cattle, hogs, horses and crops. Harlan was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. He enjoyed attending sales at the sale barn, coon hunting, working on his farm and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hermeier Waukon; his children, Lori (Arnie) Crum of Mount Horeb, WI, Lee (Dannette) Hermeier and Lisa Hermeier both of Waukon; 6 grandchildren, Michael Schulte, Ryan and Eric Crum, Mason, Walker and Ella Hermeier; 2 sisters, Lois Hermeier of Marshalltown, IA and Lorna Winters of Waukon; 2 brothers, Wayne (Barb) Hermeier of Iowa City, IA, and Gary (Diane) Hermeier of Stoddard, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Stephen Paul Hermeier and his father and mother-in-law Melvin and Emma Anderson.
