Gladys M. Larson, 86, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 19th, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Gladys Marie Larson was born April 17, 1926, in Allamakee County, IA, the daughter of Charles and Lydia (Sawaret) Johnson; she was the youngest of six sisters. She attended Lycurgus rural school. On July 26, 1943, she married Lester Larson in Decorah, IA. Gladys worked at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, IA, as a nurse's aide for many years.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and was involved in the church women's group. Gladys enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, cooking, and baking; she and Lester liked to go fishing together. She also loved when family and friends stopped by. All that knew Gladys would tell you she will be greatly remembered for her apple pies, angel food cake, and being a perfectionist with her home.
Gladys is survived by her daughter LaVonne (Roger) Thompson of Winona, MN; her son Lyle (Marilyn) Larson of Lansing, IA; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Evelyn Gilson and Lorraine Halvorson, both of Waukon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester; three grandchildren: William Nagel, Cathy Nagel, and Brenda Renolds; and three sisters: Catherine Hanson, Lillian Gilbertson, and Mildred Storla.
Honorary casketbearers are Gladys's grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Casketbearers are Rick Nagel, Travis Nation, Jason Iseli, Eric Kirkeby, Tyler Benzing, and Joe Kann.
