Gary Dennis Lane

Gary D. Lane, 82, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, October 16, 2022, at his home in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. John Moser officiating; burial of ashes will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon. Martin – Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Gary Dennis Lane was born on January 13, 1940, in Waukon, IA, the son of Claude and Marjorie (Duggan Gazlay) Lane. He attended St. Patrick Catholic School in Waukon and served in the US Navy from 1957 - 1960 where he received his GED. When he was younger, he lived in Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana.

On April 20, 1963, he married Helen Strozewski in Niagara Falls, NY. Gary worked for Bates and Rogers Construction as a laborer for three years, before he became construction manager for the company and served as an officer before retiring from the company. In 1985, he and Helen along with their son Derik moved to the Dorchester area. Gary and Helen owned and operated the S & D Cafe for 13 years. Gary also managed the Waukon Golf and Country Club until 2004. In 2005, they moved to Weeki Wachee, FL. Helen passed away in 2013, and in 2014, Gary moved back to Waukon. Gary enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Survivors include his son Derik Lane of Loveland, CO; two brothers: Kent Lane of Pine Island, FL and Bill (Debbie) Gazlay of Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen; a brother Larry Gazlay; and a sister-in-law Diane Lane.
