Francis "Frank" L. O'Neill, 86, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, May 25, 2007 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 29th at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church in rural Lansing, IA, with Fr. Louis Trzil, Msgr. Cletus Hawes, Fr. Donald Hawes and Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be held in Wexford Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 pm Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 3:30 pm scripture service.
Francis Lucian O'Neill was born on February 22, 1921 on the Wexford farm of his parents, in rural Lansing, Henry and Hanora (Crowe) O'Neill. He was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church where he was a life-long member. Frank attended Wexford rural Elementary School. He farmed with his father and brothers in the Wexford area for many years. They raised crops, beef cattle and hogs. Frank also took care of the work horses. Frank and Tom moved to the Waukon Living Center in 2001. He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with family and friends especially telling stories of Wexford history; remembering dates and places like it was yesterday.
Survivors include 2 sisters-in-law, Eleanor O'Neill of Waukon and Phyllis O'Neill of Lowell, IN; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Hilary, Celestine, Steve and Tom O'Neill; and a sister, Mary Mona O'Neill.
Honorary casketbearers were Cyril and Jim Hawes, Mike Collins, Dick Saddler, Cyril Mooney, Leo and Carl Mullarkey. Casketbearers were Gerald Hawes, John and George Delaney, Ralph Callahan, Ray Wagner and Keith Garin.
