Florence Cooper, 92, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, January 19, 2009, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22nd, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Marie Paterik officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Thursday at the church prior to services.
Florence Cooper was born December 1, 1916 in Ludlow Township of Allamakee County, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Lydia (Hager) Nolting. She attended Ludlow rural schools and graduated from Waukon High School. While in school she played Basketball and was active in 4H. On March 11, 1937 she married Donald Cooper in Dubuque IA. Florence and Donald farmed in rural Waukon for many years. Florence loved the farm life and was active in many aspects of their farming operation. They later moved into Waukon where she helped take care of her parents and cooked at Makee Manor. For over twenty years she and her husband owned and operated The City Club, a favorite local bar/restaurant in Waukon.
Florence was a Cubs fan, enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, fishing at Lake Pepin and getting apples from Gays Mills for making pies. She was a member of The Zion United Church of Christ and its Ladies Circle. Florence loved her family very much and was proud of their accomplishments.
Survivors include one son, Glenn (Janice) Cooper of Waukon; six grandsons, Kevin, Craig, Michael, Mark, Jeff and Tony; and twelve great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald, in 1982; two sons, Richard and Kenneth Cooper; and five brothers, Otto, Ruben, Melvin, Martin and Milton Nolting.
Casketbearers are Kevin, Craig, Michael, Mark and Garrett Cooper and Rick Baumgartner.
