Evelyn G. Winters, 80, of Waukon, IA, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20th, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Grant VanderVelden officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Evelyn Gayle Winters was born on August 23, 1932 in Franklin Township of Allamakee County, IA. Her parents were Harold James and Mildred Jane (Fish) Decker. She attended the Maple Dale country school in Franklin Township and then went to work as a waitress at the S&D Café and for Reva Steiber, both in Waukon. On August 4, 1951 she married Wesley Eldo Winters at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They farmed together in Winneshiek and Allamakee Counties. At the same time, Evelyn also worked at Iowa Turkey Products for over 10 years and then in the laundry department at Northgate Care Center for over 20 years. She retired in 2003.

Evelyn loved music and played the accordion. She also enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook and baker. She truly loved spending a lot of time with and entertaining for her friends and family. She will be remembered as a very caring and gentle soul.

Survivors include her husband Wesley Winters of Waukon; 4 children: Leslie Allen (JoAnn) Winters of Waukon, Raymond Lee (Tammy) Winters of Luana, IA, Kathy Ann (Howard Kneeland) Winters of Anchor Point, AK, and Barbara Sue (Marvin) Hill of Waukon; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother Gary Decker of Lawler, IA; a sister-in-law Sharon Decker of Waukon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother Robert Decker; and a sister-in-law Bernice Decker.

Casketbearers are Travis Winters, Tom Winters, Cody Hager, Andrew Hill, Tracy Blake, Dan Lutz, Steve Decker, and Dayton Fish. Honorary casketbearers are her granddaughters and her great-grandchildren.
