Evelyn Ann Gray

Evelyn A. Gray, 83, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, August 12, 2024, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 17th, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Cathy Jurgens officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until the time of services on Saturday at the church. Martin – Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Evelyn Ann Gray was born September 4, 1940, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Martin and Emma (Timmerman) Bechtel. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School in 1958. On June 3, 1967, she married Donald Gray at the Methodist Church in Decorah, IA. Evelyn worked at the Good Samaritan Society in Waukon as a dietary aide.

She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, where she was involved with the ladies' circles and was a custodian. Evelyn helped with Meals on Wheels for several years. She enjoyed quilting, working jigsaw puzzles, playing board games, going to coffee with the Wednesday coffee club, and babysitting her fur grandbabies.

Survivors include her children: Lance (Crystal) Gray of Waukon and Hollie (Allen) Moore of Prairie du Chien, WI; a sister Lucille Burr of Cresco, IA; a brother Roger Bechtel of Luana, IA; a step-granddaughter Kimberly Bitz; and five fur grandchildren: Madison, Riley, Tigger, Coia, and Cole. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald in 2002; four infant grandchildren: baby boy Gray, twins Gray, and baby Gray; a sister-in-law Ellen Bechtel; brother-in-law Don Burr; and three fur grandchildren: Montana, Bear, and Pooh.

Honorary casketbearers are Roger Bechtel, Lucille Burr, Jim Lau, Betty Decker, Erin Keehner, Janet Larsen, Lisa Mezera, Harriet Qualey, and Kenny and Wayne Topel. Casketbearers are Allen Moore, Chad Keehner, Donna and Rick Burr, Stacy Bechtel, and Bruce Larsen.
