Eunice E. Schellhammer, 89, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 25th at 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial will be in Lansing Ridge Cemetery, rural Lansing, IA. Friends may call from 9:30 am until time of service at the church on Wednesday. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.
Eunice Elizabeth Schellhammer was born on May 28, 1923 to Ragnar and Elsie (Johnson) Carlson in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated high school from Minnehaha Academy, a small Christian school. She got to attend her 70th class reunion in the fall of 2011. Following her schooling, Eunice worked as a secretary at various places in the Twin Cities. On December 6, 1952 she married Ralph Schellhammer of rural Lansing, IA, at Park Avenue Covenant Church in Minneapolis. Eunice and Ralph retuned to rural Lansing where they farmed Ralph's family farm for 45 years. For a city gal, she took great interest in the farm, doing a lot of work with the milking as well as raising calves and chickens. She also raised a large garden where she got produce for canning and freezing. Eunice and Ralph stayed on the farm until 1998 when they moved to Waukon.
Eunice was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its women's group. She enjoyed doing handiwork and working word puzzles and was proud of her Swedish heritage. Her favorite times were spent with her family who appreciated her as a wonderful mom and homemaker.
Survivors include her husband Ralph of Waukon; 3 children, Dean "Beanzy" of rural Lansing, Jann (Bob) Henkes of Apple Valley, MN, and Bruce (Cheryl) of Table Grove, IL; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Burt of Bloomington, MN; a sister-in-law, Delores Schellhammer of Lansing; a niece; and 4 nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Casketbearers are Matthew Schellhammer, John Schellhammer, Harold Marti, Gene Shogren, Tom Thomson, and Eugene Oesterle.
