Elvin F. Ranzenberger, 87, of Waukon, IA, died Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 2nd, at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Eitzen, MN, with Pastor Todd Krueger and Vicar Christian Eisenbeis officiating. Burial will be held in Zion Cemetery, Eitzen. Friends may call from 2:00 - 5:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Elvin Frank Ranzenberger was born on June 27, 1921 in Waterloo Township, rural Dorchester, IA, the son of Frank and Caroline (Jahn) Ranzenberger. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eitzen, MN and attended Dorchester Elementary School in Dorchester. Elvin farmed in rural Dorchester and did custom farming for area farmers until the late 1980's. He also hauled canned milk in the Spring Grove and Caledonia areas for many years. Elvin was co-owner in the Iowa River Feeds with his brothers Lowell and Frank, located near the Iowa River in rural Dorchester. On May 17, 1987 he married Bernice Lorna (Haugen) Shefelbine at St. John's Methodist Church in Dorchester. Bernice died in 1989. On April 22, 1995 he married Florence Eileen (Iverson) Schrandt at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Florence died in 2007.
Elvin was a long time member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church were he was very active and served on several of the church boards. He was also a member of the King of Grace Church in Waukon and the Farm Bureau. Elvin enjoyed woodworking and welding.
Survivors include his step-son, Thomas (Julie) Schrandt of Adel, IA; a step-son-in-law, Ken Pilgrim of Charlotte, IA; 2 step-daughters, Lorene Stoltz of Caledonia, MN and Patricia Henry of Burr Oak, IA; 4 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Lowell of Dorchester, IA, Frank (Helen) of Caledonia, MN, Gerhard (Janice) of Clyde, OH and Burdell (Susan) of West Fargo, ND; 2 sisters, Bernice Glasrud of Spring Grove, MN and Hazel Knies of Preston, MN; a brother-in-law, Paul H. Tewes of Caledonia, MN and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife's, Bernice and Florence; a step-daughter, Kathy Pilgrim; 2 sisters, Lorrie Ranzenberger and Shirley Joan Tewes and 2 bothers-in-law, Bill Glasrud and Chuck Knies.
Casketbearers are Jeff Ellingson, Randy Iverson, William, Mark, David, Christopher and Paul Tewes.
