Ella Mae Dvorak, 100, of Waukon, IA, died peacefully Monday, August 26, 2024, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31st, at 10:30 AM at Martin - Grau Funeral Home in Waukon with Pastor Abraham Faugstad officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City, IA. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Alzheimer's Society.
Ella Mae was born in Waukon, IA, on November 12, 1923, the daughter of Harvey and Mabel (Larson) Stock. She was baptized on January 30, 1924, and confirmed on March 21, 1937, at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and attended grade school at Elk Country School before graduating from Waukon High School in 1940 and Waukon Junior College in 1942.
Following junior college, Ella Mae moved to Neillsville, WI, where she was employed as a secretary at the Winnebago Indian School which was largely sponsored by the Evangelical and Reformed Church at the time. Upon her return to Waukon, she was employed at Waukon State Bank.
On July 16, 1947, she married Richard Dvorak at Zion United Church of Christ, in Waukon. In 1951, they moved to Ionia, IA, where they operated the D&E Grocery Store for 26 years. Ella Mae and Richard were blessed with 31 years of marriage until Richard was called to his heavenly home on July 16, 1978.
Ella Mae worked at Ionia Savings Bank and later First Security Bank, both in Ionia. After working for 40 years, she retired in 1991.
Following retirement, she volunteered for several organizations in her community. She was an active member at United Church of Christ in Ionia, where she served as treasurer. She enjoyed spending her winters in the warm Florida sunshine with close friends and family.
Ella Mae moved back to Waukon in 2010 and enjoyed her apartment at Evergreen Court until 2023.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley Colson of Rochester, MN, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters: Eleanor Nolting and Marjorie Meyer; and one brother Robert James Stock.
Casketbearers are Kent, Mark, and Drew Stock, Gordon and Lee Meyer, Mitch Regan, and Gene Halverson.
