Eleanor Frances Larson

April 10, 1936 — July 7, 2008

Eleanor F. Larson, 72, of Waterville, IA, died Monday, July 7, 2008, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, IA, after a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12th, at 11:00 AM at East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, with Pastor Daniel Finn officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery, in rural Waterville. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.


Eleanor Frances Larson was born April 10, 1936 in Waterville, IA, the daughter of Theodore and Gladys (Busness) Tolander. She was a lifelong member of East Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed in 1950. Eleanor graduated from Waterville High School in 1954. She moved to Waterloo, IA, where she worked as a telephone operator. Eleanor returned to Waterville and married Robert Larson on August 20, 1955. They lived in Ossian, Nordness and Waterville where they raised their three children. Eleanor served as church organist at East and West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Churches for fifty years. She also taught Bible School and Saturday School, and served on the altar guild for many years. Eleanor worked at the Waterville Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank, was town treasurer for Waterville for several years and did daycare in her home. She also sold Avon products for many years until shortly before her death. Eleanor enjoyed reading, watching television, getting together with her family and going to visit her grandchildren in Minnesota as often as possible.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Waterville; 3 children, Rick of Waterville, Robin Ouren of St. Peter, MN and Russell (Bethany) of Reinbeck, IA; 2 grandchildren, Beret and Peder Ouren of St. Peter, MN; a sister, DiAnn Schultz (Peter) Rocksvold of Decorah, IA and her mother-in-law, Mildred Larson of Waukon, IA and several nephews, nieces and their children. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Merlin who died in infancy; her father-in-law, Clarence Larson, and a brother-in-law, August Schultz

Casketbearers are Rick and Russell Larson, Chris and Tim Schultz, Sean Bresnahan and Jeff Hamm.
