Elaine Marie (Volden) Kelly passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the age of 53 in the company of her loving family at her home in Waterville, IA after a courageous five year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27th at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, IA, with Fr. Joseph Schneider, Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg and Fr. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in St. Pius at Cherry Mound Cemetery, rural Harpers Ferry, IA. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, August 26th at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 4:00 PM scripture service.
Elaine was born on April 15, 1958 in Viroqua, WI to James and Arlene (Peterson) Volden. She was baptized at Vang Lutheran Church in Westby, WI. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1977. Elaine married Wayne Kelly on August 28, 1987 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. She enjoyed caring for the elderly at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon for 24 years as a Certified Nurse's Aide and Dietary Manager.
A devout Catholic, Elaine will be remembered for her uncommon compassion, being active in charities and CEW, family gatherings, maintaining her special friendships and her love of children, especially babies. She was an active member in AA for over 20 years. Some of her favorite times were spent shopping for bargains with her family and girlfriends and traveling. Elaine had an unconditional love for her family, only surpassed by her unending faith. She exuded spirituality and everyone who was in contact with her felt this. Elaine always had the gift of seeing the best in everyone and always put other's concerns before her own.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Kelly; her children, Mandy (Charles) Robitaille of Springfield, VA, Tiffany (Daniel) Fehrenkamp of Savage, MN, Patrick Kelly (special friend Hannah Gesing) and Michael Kelly, both of Waterville, IA; her grandchildren, Dylan, Samuel and Madeline Robitaille and Elin Fehrenkamp; her mother, Arlene Volden of Viroqua, WI; her brothers and sisters, Duane (Connie) Volden of Cedar Rapids, IA, Richard (Judy) Volden of Onalaska, WI, Ronald (Janice) Volden of Madison, WI, Gary (Kathy) Volden, Vickie Moore (special friend Phil Von Ruden), Mark (Brenda) Volden and Judy (Larry) Wilger, all of Viroqua, WI, and Diane (Ronald) Christianson of Coon Valley, WI; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, James Volden; her grandparents, John and Minnie Peterson and Mandus and Anna Volden; and 3 brothers-in-law.
Honorary casketbearers are Good Samaritan Center employees, AA members and CEW friends. Casketbearers are Merlin Gesing, Travis Volden, Troy Volden, Troy Uldrich, Kyle Christianson, Chad Kelly, J.C. Kelly, Shane Iverson and Cary Hermanson.
