Duane Brandt

Duane M. Brandt, 66, of Postville, IA, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until time of graveside services Saturday, August 25th, at the Salem United Church of Christ fellowship hall in rural Waukon. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 11:00 AM Saturday at Salem Cemetery, rural Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Duane Marcus Brandt was born in Waukon, IA, on August 5, 1951, the son of Marcus and Yvonne (Kugel) Brandt. In 1970, he graduated from Waukon High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1970-74. As a jet engine mechanic, Duane was stationed in South Dakota, Guam, and Alaska. On June 14, 1974, he married Debra Dull at the Castalia Lutheran Church in Castalia, IA. Duane farmed with his dad before becoming a truck driver, hauling milk for farmers, driving for Bruening Rock, and most recently for Caledonia Haulers; he retired in June 2018. Duane was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, mall walking with Deb, mowing his lawn, and relaxing at home.

Survivors include his wife Debra Brandt of Postville, IA; two sons: Michael Brandt of Ridgeway, IA, and Matthew (Erica) Brandt of Cedar Rapids, IA; his mother Yvonne Brandt of Waukon; a brother David (Cheryl) Brandt of Waukon; and two sisters: Joyce Ann (Larry) Shatek of Chatfield, MN, and Judy (Bob) Ulen of Waukon. He is preceded in death by his father Marcus.
