Dorothy A. Martindale, 94, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 8th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Father Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 4:00 PM Scripture service and a 5:00 PM VFW Auxiliary Service.
Dorothy Ann (Dasher) Martindale was born on June 4, 1918, in Waukon, IA to Harry and Katherine (Curran) Dasher. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Dorothy graduated from Waukon High School in 1935.
On November 28, 1935, Dorothy married Jack Martindale of Burlington, IA at St. Patrick Church. For the first seven years of their marriage, they lived in several towns and cities as Jack worked as a surveyor for the Iowa State Highway Commission; they spent the last of those seven years living in Houston, TX and working for the United States government.
Dorothy worked as a secretary for St. Patrick School and St. Patrick Rectory in Waukon for over 30 years. She was an active member of St. Patrick Church and formerly of its study clubs, the VFW Auxiliary, and was also involved in the Adopted Grandparent program and the Telepal program. Dorothy enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe; she was also an avid reader and sports fan. Dorothy always treasured spending time with children and friends. She will be loved and missed by her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her four children: Jean Ann Gallagher of Marietta, GA, James Martindale of Austin, TX, Donald Martindale of Spencer, IA, and Daniel (Mary) Martindale of Palmer Lake, CO; 9 grandchildren: Shawn (Mary), Mick (Cindy), Dawn (Tim), and Kevin (Kelly) Tobin, and Thomas, Dane (Allison), Jaimie, Tiffany, and Kristin Martindale; 13 great-grandchildren: Derek, Adam, Corey, Belinda, Riley, Cooper, Kirby, Mackenzie, Maddy, Sarah, Mason, Laruen, and Ryder; and brother Richard (Terry) Dasher of Midlothian, IL. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Jack, who died in 1993; her parents; and her sister Mary Lou Wiegand.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dorothy's grandchildren. Casketbearers will be Dane Martindale, Thomas Martindale, Dennis Kloke, Dan Straate, Joe Griffin, Cary Griffin, and Mick Tobin.
