Dorothea F. Delaney, 84, of New Albin, IA, died Friday March 7, 2008 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10th, at 11:00 am at St. Peters Christian Community Church in New Albin, with Rev. William Reese officiating. Burial will be held in the New Albin City Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday at Town House in New Albin.
Dorothea Fredericke Delaney was born July 21, 1923 on her parents farm in rural Eitzen, MN, the daughter of Benjamin and Meta (Krzebieke) Welper. She was baptized at home and confirmed at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Eitzen and attended country schools in the rural Dorchester, IA, area. Dorothea worked for many years at the Blumenthal button factory in Lansing. On September 18, 1965 she married Aelred Joseph Delaney at Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, rural Lansing. Dorothea and Aelred farmed for many years in rural Dorchester. They moved to New Albin in October of 2001. She has been a resident at Thornton Manor in Lansing since September of 2007. Dorothea was a member at St. Peter's Christian Community Church and was active in its ladies groups. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, feeding the birds and turkeys and watching the wildlife on their farm.
Survivors include 6 brothers-in-law, Lester (Mary) Delaney of Waukon, IA, John Delaney, Mark (Margie) Delaney, Martin (Helen) Delaney and Pat (Aileen) Delaney all of Harpers Ferry, IA and Joseph (Lora) Delaney of Choctaw, OK; 2 sisters-in-law, Myrtle Egan of Harpers Ferry, IA and Delores (Bob) Mooney of Oswego, IL; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Aelred who died in 2001.
Casketbearers are Lester, John, Mark and Pat Delaney, Harlan Martin and John Burroughs.
