Doris E. Wedo, 99, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, November 12, 2007 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 16th at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon with Rev. Richard A. Iles officiating. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery, in Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Doris Ethel Wedo was born on September 19, 1908 on her parent's farm in Jefferson Township, rural Rossville, IA. She was the daughter of George B. and Mary C. (Douglas) Ralston. Doris attended "Bear Hollow" rural country school in Franklin Township, rural Rossville. On June 16, 1929 she married Edward H. Wedo at Zion United Church of Christ Parsonage in Waukon. During WWII they lived in California. Doris and Ed moved back to Waukon in 1953. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and its ladies circles. Doris enjoyed quilting, canning, cooking for her family and Kiwanis meetings, writing stories about her family history and taking care of her vegteable garden. Doris was the last surviving member of the George and Mary (Douglas) Ralston family.
Survivors include her children, Walter (Gloria) of Waukon, James (Gloria) of Slayton, MN, Ramona Miller of Rosemead, CA and Barbara (Richard) McCormack of Russellville, KY; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward who died in 1993; 2 sons, Donald Henry and David William Wedo; 1 granddaughter; 1 great-granddaughter; 3 brothers, Earl, John and David Ralston; 5 sisters, Ruth Johnson, Marie Tomlinson, Florence Brandas, Eugenia Sass and Jessie Stocker.
