Doris Ann Meyer

Doris Meyer of Waukon, IA, died Monday, November 13, 2023, at her home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date with burial at the Dorchester Methodist Cemetery. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Doris Ann Meyer was born on June 24, 1930, to George and Vienna (Wiitala) Shefelbine in Waukon, IA. She grew up in Dorchester, IA, where she attended Dorchester school through the 8th grade, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1948. Following high school, Doris continued her education, receiving her nursing degree from Finley Hospital School of Nursing in Dubuque. Doris met Norbert Meyer and the two were wed on October 20, 1951, at St. John's Methodist Church in Dorchester. From this marriage, Doris and Norbert raised three children: Larry, Laina, and Kenneth.

She remained living in Dubuque, working as an RN for many years at Finley Hospital. She moved to Waukon in 1992 and worked as an RN for a short time at Veterans Memorial Hospital. She loved quilting, reading, and traveling to places such as Hawaii, Maine, and Florida. She lived by the motto, "I'll try anything!" Doris also enjoyed spending time at the family farm in Dorchester.

She is survived by her children: Larry (Karen) Meyer of Dubuque, Laina (Darrell) Ford of Waukon, and Kenneth (Theresa) Meyer of Cedar, MN; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Norbert in 2009.
