Doris Marie Cunningham

Doris M. Cunningham, 92, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, November 25, 2019, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Doris Marie Cunningham was born April 26, 1927, in Glen Haven, WI, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Schier) Blum. She graduated from Bloomington High School in Bloomington, WI, and attended cosmetology school in Dubuque, IA. Doris worked as a beautician in Prairie du Chien, WI. On November 27, 1948, she married John Cunningham at Nativity Parish Catholic Church in Dubuque. They moved to Dubuque for a short time before moving to Waukon in 1958. Doris worked as a beautician for Emma Kostman and Althea Wall and later was the beautician at Northgate Care Center before she retired.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church; Doris had a very strong faith and would say the rosary every day. Doris enjoyed playing golf and belonged to the Waukon Golf and Country Club. She also liked working in her flower garden.

Survivors include her son Don (Bonnie) Cunningham of Waukon; two grandchildren: LeAnne (Dan) Jones of Waterville, IA, and Shawn (Jordan) Cunningham of Cedar Rapids, IA; five great-grandchildren: Max and Bentley Jones and Nash, Nox, and Niko Cunningham; and a brother Wayne (Karen) Gardner of East Dubuque, WI. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband John, who died in 1991; a granddaughter Donelle Cunningham; and two brothers: Lawrence and Ralph "Buddy" Blum.

Honorary casketbearers are Doris's great-grandchildren. Casketbearers are Don and Bonnie Cunningham, Shawn and Jordan Cunningham, and LeAnne, Dan, and Max Jones.
