Donna L. Wurtzel, 85, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 18th, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Donna Lou Wurtzel was born July 23, 1929, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Hubert and Edna (Reeder) Hermanson. She was baptized at Rossville Presbyterian Church in Rossville, IA, and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Donna graduated from Waukon High School. On August 29, 1948 she married Truman Edward Wurtzel at St. John's Lutheran Church. She and Truman owned a milk hauling business, Truman Wurtzel Bulk Milk Hauling, which they operated together for many years. Donna did the bookkeeping, she would run after parts, and was a relief driver when she was needed.
Donna was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was a member of Altar Guild and circle. She enjoyed traveling with Truman, going on bus tours across the country, including a trip to Alaska. Donna looked forward to planning and taking trips with her family to the western states. She enjoyed cooking, riding motorcycle with Truman, keeping a clean house and having meals together with her children at the same time every day. Her favorite times were when she was spending time with her family and following her children and grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include her children: Carol (Boyd) Jeglum of Waterville, IA, Steve Wurtzel, Karen (Glenn) Grimstad, and Rhonda (Bruce) Barr all of Waukon; 14 grandchildren: Thea (Eric) McKee, Brian (Amy) Jeglum, Josh Barr, Jamie (Kyle) Barr-Halse, Brianne (Dave) Eilers, Jennyanne (Michael) Hager, Corbett (Arica) Grimstad, Suzanne (Drew Pierson) Grimstad, Elisha (Rich) Marti, Nicole (Steve) Murray, Reid (Shannon) Wurtzel, Mishey (Eric Carter) Wurtzel, Stevie Wurtzel, and Nevada (John) Lemke; 32 great-grandchidren; two brothers: Bernard (Nancy) Hermanson of Panama, IA, and Hubert (Suzanne) Hermanson of Cedar Rapids, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Truman who died in 2008.
Honorary casketbearers are Donna's great-grandchildren. Casketbearers are Steve Wurtzel, Josh Barr, Brian Jeglum, Reid Wurtzel, Corbett Grimstad, Michael Hager, and Greg Palmer.
