Donna Mae Knudtson

Donna M. Knudtson, 80, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at her home in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 23rd, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Donna Mae Knudtson was born on August 1, 1928 in Waukon, IA, the daughter of George H. and Martha Cornelia (Fiet) Winke. She was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church, attended the rural Helming Elementary School, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1947. On April 8, 1956 she married Eugene Lyle Knudtson at the Zalmona Church. Donna and Gene began farming his parents farm and later purchased more land where they operated a registered Holstein dairy herd, raised crops, and kept numerous other kinds of livestock. Donna lived her life as a mother and a wife. She was a busy mother of eight children, but was also very active on the farm, working with the cows, tending the chickens, and raising a large garden. In 1988 she and Gene retired from farming and moved to Waukon.
Donna was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its ladies circles. She enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeyes as well as all of the activities of her family and grandchildren. Some of her favorite times were having coffee and going on visits and outings with her friends.
Survivors include 7 children, Jolie Knudtson of Tacoma, WA, Kim Wheeler of Clive, IA, Jerry, Mark (Tammy), and Scot (Bridget Byrnes) Knudtson, all of Waukon, Jeff Knudtson of Concord, GA, and Ross (Tracey) Knudtson of Urbandale, IA; 5 grandchildren, Kayla, Rachel, Taylor, Zach and Jake; and a brother, Jim (Shirley) Winke of Waukon. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Eugene, who died in 2004; and a son Tom.
Honorary casketbearers are Kayla Rachel and Taylor Knudtson. Casketbearers are Jerry, Mark, Scot, Jeff, Ross, Zach and Jake Knudtson.
