Donald J. Moe, 64, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, November 24, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 28th, at 1:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be held Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 12:00 PM until time of services at the church on Friday. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.
Donald Julian Moe was born on October 10, 1944 on the family farm east of Waukon. His parents were Julian Melvin and Gladys (Gilbertson) Moe. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Donald spent his early years on the farm with his family. His father died when Don was 6 years old. He attended the rural Fan Country School, Waukon Elementary School, and graduated from the Special Ed School in Decorah, IA. Donald and his mother moved into Waukon in 1956. He was the first resident to move into the Martin Luther Homes in Waukon, and later was the first resident to move into the TASC apartments. He was also a resident at the Waukon Living Center and most recently at the Good Samaritan Center. Donald was very active in the TASC programs for many years and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing bingo, listening to people visit and taking part in the activities at the Good Samaritan Center.
Survivors include his brother, James (Carol) Moe of Waukon, IA; a sister, Judy (John) Dorumsgaard of White Bear Lake, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and 2 nephews, Joel Moe and Brent Herman.
Casketbearers are Todd, Jeff and Arlyn Moe, Randy Herman, Gary Leiran and Jim Kroack.
