Donald D. Leppert, 90, of Lansing, IA, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Thornton Manor in Lansing. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 27th, at 11:00 AM at United Methodist Church in Lansing with Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will be at Mays Prairie Cemetery, rural Lansing. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM Sunday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Donald Dewey Leppert was born September 28, 1926, in Waukon, IA, the son of Dewey and Florence (Bechtel) Leppert. He was baptized and confirmed at Lansing Ridge Presbyterian Church in Church, IA. Don attended French Creek country school in rural Lansing and graduated from Lansing High School in 1945. He worked in North Dakota for a couple of years during the wheat and potato harvest before moving back to the Lansing area to farm with his father and brother Kenneth. On June 9, 1951, he married Eleanora Dorothy Toedter at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They farmed together in Mays Prairie Township raising Black Angus cattle, hogs, and crops; he was a steward of the land, before moving to Waukon in 1996. Don has been living at Thornton Heights in Lansing since 2014.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Lansing. Don served as secretary for Calhoun Creamery and was on the Mays Prairie Cemetery board for several years. He enjoyed fishing especially ice fishing, traveling, and riding his motorcycle. Don was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include his children: Janice (Randy) Ellis of Castalia, IA, and Gary (Dawn) Leppert of Dodge Center, MN; four grandchildren: Jennifer Ellis, Sara (Joe) Rogalla, Megan (Kyle) Hensel, and Amber (Aaron) Christie; a brother Kenneth (Karen) Leppert of Lansing; a special friend Arlene Rooney of Waukon; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eleanora who died in 1998; and a sister Lucille Leppert.
Honorary casketbearers are Bill Bartels, Bill and Frannie Brynes, Bill and Kathy Campbell, Don Larsen, Bob and Barb Leppert, and Tom and Mary Schofield. Casketbearers are Kyle and Kraig Leppert, Randy and Jim Toedter, Paul Mauss, and Gilbert Brainard.
