Dilles A. Schellhammer, 89, of Waukon, IA, formerly of Lansing, IA, died Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 1st, at 11:00 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lansing, with Pastor Laura Gentry officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Dilles Anna Sess Schellhammer was born March 12, 1921 in Postville, IA, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Macklemburg) Martens. She attended rural schools in the Postville area. On October 17, 1938 she married Herbert Sess in Dubuque, IA. They lived in the Village Creek area in rural Lansing, IA. Herbert died in 1978. Dilles worked in the kitchen at Thornton Manor in Lansing for sixteen years and did some housecleaning for area families. Dilles moved to Waukon in 1993. On November 12, 1994 she married Morris Schellhammer at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lansing. He died on October 9, 2009. Dilles was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church where she was active in its ladies groups. She enjoyed playing cards, doing embroidery work and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Jim (Melissa) Sess and Joan (Larry) White both of Harpers Ferry, IA; her step-children, Owen (Rosalette) Schellhammer of Strawberry Point, IA and Gary (Colleen) Schellhammer of Waukon; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Herbert and Morris; 9 brothers, 2 sisters; 2 half brothers and 1 half sister.
Honorary casketbearers are Owen Schellhammer and Reggie Adam. Casketbearers are Steve McKee, Spencer Adam, Greg Johanningmeier, Larry Schellhammer, Dennis Kleppe and Ron Nesvik.
