DiAnn Lynn Bakkum was born October 16, 1971, in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Orville Raymond and Ann-Elise (Hagen) Bakkum. She was baptized and confirmed at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon and graduated from Waukon High School. DiAnn earned her bachelor of science degree in psychology and sociology from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. While a student, she worked in the business office and worked her way up to becoming the revenue cycle manager at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; DiAnn was there for 17 years. In 2015, she moved back to Waukon to be closer to her mom.
She lived to help others and often volunteered with the Lions Club and the Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. DiAnn loved plants, keeping many houseplants and growing beautiful flowers; she also spent a lot of time helping Ann-Elise landscape and garden. She was a great cook and griller and had a knack for making some of the best casseroles. She enjoyed spending time with her family and some of her fondest memories were the couple of trips she took to Norway with her mom.
DiAnn is survived by her siblings: Allan (Beverly) Bakkum of Decorah, IA, and Carol (Richard) Brown of Nevada, IA, and her nieces and nephews. DiAnn preceded her mom Ann-Elise in death by four days. She was preceded in death by her dad Orville in 1980, and her grandparents Arnold and Irene Bakkum and Sigurd and Georgine Hagen.
Daryl Hansmeier will serve as her urnbearer.
