She went to work for NW Bell as a long distance operator. On December 20, 1953 she married Richard Gordon "Dick" Prestemon at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. They moved to Ames, IA where Dick completed college and Diane worked for NW Bell again. While Dick was in the service, Diane spent a year and a half with him living in Germany. Following Dick's discharge in October of 1956, they moved to Des Moines where Diane worked for Bell Labs for 5 years. For the next 3 years they lived in Dallas Center, IA before moving to Waukon in 1966, where they have lived ever since.
