Deloris M. Topel, 80, of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 18th, at 1:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery, rural Monona, IA. Friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Deloris Mae Topel was born April 16, 1937, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Lois Thompson. She lived with her adopted parents George and Ethel (Mattie) Malli in Decorah, IA, and attended Decorah area schools. Deloris worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, IA, as a nurse's aide. On June 6, 1954, she married Howard Kolsrud at First Lutheran Church in Decorah. They later divorced. Deloris continued her education at NICC in Calmar, IA, where she received her nursing degree in 1981. Deloris then went to work as a LPN at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, IA, before she retired. On May 28, 1988, she married Donald Topel at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, IA.
Deloris was a member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working with ceramics, and going for drives with Donald throughout the country side. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Donald Topel of Waukon; her children: Roger (Donna) Kolsrud of Waukon; Dorothy Diersen of St. Olaf, IA, and Lyle Kolsrud of Waukon; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother; her adopted parents; two sons: Leland Ray Kolsrud and Wayne Steven Kolsrud; and a grandson Thomas Larkin.
Casketbearers are Ross, Amanda, Austin, Zachery, Gary, and Ashton Kolsrud, Fern and Noah Diersen, and Wayne Topel.
