She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Debbie attended Postville Community Schools and graduated from High School in 1968. She pursued higher education at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA, and continued her liberal arts education at Mankato State University. On December 18, 1971 Debbie was married to James Nathan Hager at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Debbie and Jim were blessed with two sons, Jason and Joshua. Debbie enjoyed helping on the family farm and being a stay-at-home mom while the boys were growing up. She then pursued a professional career at the 4-H Extension office in Waukon. With this experience and her natural artistic talents she was a frequent judge of 4-H projects at the Iowa State Fair, which she was so proud to be a part of. Debbie's role in life has always been centered around family. She has been a loving mother and grandmother, a kind and caring sister, a dedicated daughter and generous friend. Family has always come first in Debbie's life. Whether it be a quaint gathering or grand family event, her artistic and creative talents made everything beautiful! Her favorite pastimes would include 'day trips' near the Mississippi River Valley, enjoying the fall leaves, the art or wine tours with the girls or exploring Effigy Mounds. She had a talent and passion for creativity and artistry. She would love to hunt out antiques, jewelry, vintage clothing and primitive farm objects. Over the past decade she has had the opportunity for a few memorable trips with her children and her Mother visiting the east coast and New York, Washington DC and Martha's Vineyard.
