She was baptized at her parents' home and confirmed at Union Prairie Church, both in Winneshiek County. Darlene attended Decorah public schools and then went to work at the Decorah radio plant and Wheatman Cleaners. On December 15, 1946, she married Clarence Norman Sivesind at Decorah Lutheran Church. Darlene was also a 4-H leader. She loved to bake, especially cakes for special events and just to give to family and friends. Darlene loved to embroider, and made many sets of pillowcases and dish towels. She also really enjoyed mowing the lawn. Mostly, she loved hosting family events with her kids, grandkids, and extended family.
