Daniel D. Mathis, 80, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, December 1, 2025, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 6th, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Joseph Sevcik officiating. Friends may greet the family from 9:00 AM until the time of services. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to be designated later.

Daniel Delbert Mathis, son of Delbert and Anna (Troendle) Mathis, was born January 7, 1945, at the Hall House in Waukon. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Paint Rock Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. Daniel attended Waterville Elementary School, graduated in 1963 from St. George Catholic School in Lansing, and served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1965-1971. On May 2, 1970, he married Kathy Thies at St. Ann-St. Joseph Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry.

Daniel and his dad were dairy, beef, and crop farmers. He went on to work for Tri-County Feeds, Weighner Brothers, Inc., and Welch Feed & LP. In later years, he worked at Quillin's and was a volunteer at Northgate Care Center. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Daniel was a true patriot, always supportive of the military and his country. He was a proud member of the American Legion in Harpers Ferry.

Daniel will be remembered for his devotion to his Catholic faith, love of family, and dedication to his work.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Kathy, of 55 years; his children: Jennifer (Dwayne) Durham of Centerville, IA, Eric Mathis of Marion, IA, and Sara Schmitt of Onalaska, WI; four grandchildren: Conner Mathis, Maggie Mathis, Wessley Schmitt, and Avery Schmitt; three brothers: Clete (Karen), Cyril (Shirley), and John (Juliet); two sisters: Eloise (Glen) Reed and Mary (Daren) Kaeppel; sister-in-law Gail Mathis; brothers-in-law: Jim (Marilyn) Thies, Kim (Barb) Thies, Mark Thies, Larry (Elaine) Thies, Todd Thies, and Ronn (Renee) Thies; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother- and father-in-law Leonard and Bernice Thies: a brother Earl; son-in-law Lance Schmitt; nephew Jason Kaeppel; and niece Meghan Thies.

Honorary urnbearers are his grandchildren. Daniel's son Eric will serve as urnbearer.
