Cory Adam Conway

Cory A. Conway, 40, of Des Moines, IA, formerly of Lansing, IA, died Monday, November 6, 2023, at his home in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 18th, at 12:00 PM at Thornburg - Grau Funeral Home in Lansing with Rusty Phillips and Fr. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Wexford Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home.

Cory Adam Conway was born on July 4, 1983, to John Conway and Hattie (Jones) Nemmers in Prairie du Chien, WI. He grew up in the Lansing area and was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church. He attended Kee High School in Lansing, graduating in 2001. Following high school, Cory enlisted in the United States Marine Corps from 2001 until 2008. During his time spent in the Marines, he worked as a vehicle mechanic while serving a tour in Iraq.

After his military service, he moved back to the Lansing/Harpers Ferry area and attended the University of Northern Iowa. He was a fantastic cook and worked as cook for many establishments in Lansing before eventually settling in Des Moines, IA, where he could be closer to the VA Hospital for health reasons. While living in Des Moines, he worked at the Hy-Vee Deli and The Wine Experience.

Cory was an avid sports fan and followed the Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Twins, and Green Bay Packers. He adored his nephews Aidan and Charlie and loved spending time with them. One of his favorite places to be was his father's farm in Wexford. Cory also enjoyed playing disc golf with his favorite playing partner Satoshi, his cat. Cory loved taking Satoshi for walks on a leash or in a backpack, always making an appearance for the neighbors! Cory will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

He is survived by his mother Hattie (Terry) Nemmers of Dubuque, IA; two brothers: Justin Conway of Harpers Ferry, IA, and Brad (Heather) Conway of Dubuque, IA; two nephews: Aidan and Charlie Conway; step-grandmother Beverly Nemmers of Dubuque, IA; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cory was preceded in death by his father John Conway in 2019; his grandparents Hugh and Alice Conway and Herman and Arlene Jones; step-grandfather Alvin Nemmers; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Honorary urnbearers are Tyler Sickles, Chad Rethwisch, Seth Steiber, Donny Tobin, and Dustin Conway. Urnbearers are Cory's brothers Brad and Justin Conway.
