Connie Kay Mettille was born on July 16, 1944, at St. Ann's Hospital in La Crosse, WI, the oldest child of Robert and Catherine (Baxter) Irons. She was baptized at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing, IA, and attended St. Patrick's Catholic School in Waukon until 4th grade then attended Ellis country school in West Ridge, rural Waukon, for 5 th and 6 th grades. Connie graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Waukon in 1963.

Connie attended La James School of Cosmetology in Mason City, IA, where she completed her studies and passed her boards the following year. In 1965, she purchased the Altas Blockhaus Beauty Shop in Lansing and started her beautician career. The following year, she met Jim through mutual friends and they were married about a year later on November 25, 1967; thus began their 55 years of marriage together.

Connie owned the beauty shop in Lansing for a few years and during that time she and Jim started their family that would grow to eight children on the family farm near Churchtown. As time passed, the demands of owning her shop, raising kids, and farming led Connie to sell the beauty shop and focus on the most important thing in her life – her family. She spent the next 25 years as a full-time mother (which she loved most), homemaker, farm wife, and active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing. Some of her most treasured times were spent with her youngest daughter Melissa and the two had an unbreakable life long bond. She was a wonderful cook and known for her famous homemade pizzas. She loved attending her children's many school activities, which included countless football games.

Connie's faith filled life led her into many church activities which included CEW, ACCW, CCD teacher, Bible study, choir, and being a eucharistic minister. Connie loved new adventures and took a couple trips to Europe, one of which was to the Vatican where she saw Pope Benedict XVI.

Once Connie's children were older, she worked several years at the Lansing Senior Citizen Meal Site, where she served meals and entertained the patrons. Connie was a lover of all things social - which included the Red Hat Society, card club parties, and attending concerts, dances, and plays with her closest friends.

Later in life, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed taking in all of their activities.  She cherished family celebrations including birthdays, campouts, and holidays. Any time spent with family and friends was a time to celebrate! Connie loved spending time with her sisters and always enjoyed their annual sisters' weekend getaway. Her zest for life over the last ten years was never diminished by her long battle with cancer.

Connie is survived by her loving husband Jim of Lansing; her children: Becky Mettille of Lansing; Matt (Julie) Mettille of Decorah, IA; Mark (Lori) Mettille of Lantana, TX; Ben (Erin) Mettille of Lansing; Bob (Angie) Mettille of Waterville, IA; Brian (Stephanie) Mettille of Dubuque, IA; and Melissa Mettille of Decorah; grandchildren: Olivia, Britann, and Blake Mettille; Makinzie (Ben) Dugger; Parker Monroe; Madison and Landry Mettille; Isabelle, Irey, Eliyas, Ezrah, and Ireland Mettille; Isaiah, Ian, Rowan, and Reid Mettille; and Quinn, Eden, and Emery Mettille; her siblings: Callie Irons, Alyce (Vince) Sheehan, Sr. Marilou Irons PBVM, Bill (Kathy) Irons, Bob (Rita) Irons, Peg (Dennis) Troendle, Pat (Mike) Roberts, and Lori (Mark) Egan; sisters-in-law: Rita Dougherty and Kay Mettille; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
