Coila B. Nolting, 82, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 16th, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, in Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Coila Bernita Nolting was born on November 18, 1927 on her parent's farm in rural Waukon, IA, the daughter of Harry and Clara (Sorenson) Sorum. She was baptized and confirmed at West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church in rural Waukon. She graduated from Waukon High School in 1946 and attended Waukon Jr. College. Coila worked at Equity Grocery Store and Grahams Clothing Store for Women both in Waukon. On April 9, 1960 she married Emmet Nolting at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, IA. They farmed together in Union Prairie and Ludlow Townships, where they milked dairy cows, raised crops, beef cows and hogs.

Coila was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and the Farm Bureau. She enjoyed collecting antiques, fishing, working in her vegetable and flower gardens, going to garage sales and actions and traveling throughout the United States especially the southern states. Coila also enjoyed visiting with family and friends.


Survivors include her husband, Emmet Nolting of Waukon; a daughter, Diane Nolting of Waukon; and a niece, Judith Robinson and her son Travis both of Maryland. She is preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother.
