Chester T. Spinner, 95, of Waukon, IA, and formerly of Waterville, IA, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 6th, at 11:00 AM at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church, rural Harpers Ferry, IA, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Monday at the church.
Chester Theodore Spinner was born on October 18, 1915 in Waterville, IA, the son of Theodore and Helma (Hermanson) Spinner Sr. He graduated from Waterville High School. Chester served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945 and achieved the rank of Tech 5. During most of this time he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands which were under siege. Following an honorable discharge, Chester returned to Waterville where he was engaged in farming for many years. For more than 40 years he made his home in the foothills of Waterville, across from Paint Creek, he resided at Northgate Care Center, Waukon since June, 2010. Mr. Spinner was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was known by his family to be a conscientious steward of the land and waters of his beloved northeastern Iowa.
Survivors include a brother, Howard (Joann) Spinner, of Bakersfield, CA and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents and four siblings; Roy Spinner, Doris Surom, Rita Monroe and Theodore Spinner Jr.
Casketbearers are Lowell Monroe, Glenn Monroe, Scott Spinner, Michael Spinner, Rudolph Hesla and Herb Surom.
