Charles N. Langland, 70, of Decorah, IA, died Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Cresco, IA. Graveside services will be held at Iowa River Cemetery in rural Dorchester, IA, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:30 AM. Martin-Grau Funeral Home is Waukon is handling arrangements.

Charlie (Chuck to his family) N. Langland was born in Spring Grove, MN, on October 28, 1953, the second son of Charles and A. Lois (Nesheim) Langland. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1971. In 1975, he enlisted in the Navy, serving as a gunner's mate on the USS Dubuque amphibious transport dock home ported in San Diego, CA, and traveled to many countries in the Pacific.

After leaving the Navy, he moved to Decorah, where he lived the rest of his life. Charlie worked as an engineering technician in the Winneshiek County Surveyor's office for many years before retiring in 2019.

Charlie was a great lover of music and spent time each day listening to jazz, blues, and classic rock. He was a DJ at The Haymarket in Decorah for many years and loved going to live music shows in Spirit Lake, IA, and especially the Prairie Dog Blues Festival in Prairie du Chien, WI.

Charlie was an avid sports fan and loved playing pickup basketball games with friends and going to Iowa Hawkeye home football games. He and dear friends founded the Thunder Oaks Golf Tournament held each year in rural Decorah. He also treasured his "Dinner Club" friends, who met each month. Survivors include his brother David (Beverly) Langland of Las Cruces, NM; two sisters: Connie (Joe) Witkowski of LaGrange Park, IL, and Joan (Sam) Howard of Knoxville, TN; his niece and nephews: Laura (Nathan) Shattuck, Charlie Witkowski, and Ed (Erika Berg) Witkowski; a great-niece Torri Langland; a great-nephew Walter Witkowski; and his dear friend Nancy Flaskerud. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bruce Langland; sister Linda Langland; and nephew Eric Langland.
