Carol Hilleshiem

June 22, 1949 — April 7, 2019

Carol M. Hilleshiem, 69, of rural Waterville, IA, died Sunday, April 7, 2019, at her home. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12th, at 11:00 AM at Waterville Lutheran Church with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 AM until the time of services on Friday at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Carol Maxine Hilleshiem was born June 22, 1949, in Cole Camp, MO, the daughter of Ira and Frieda (Allen) Webb. She grew up in Missouri and graduated from high school in Excelsior Springs. She married Russell Martin and they had two children: Jill and Scott; Carol and Russell later divorced. Carol married Duane Shipp and they had two children: Jay and Jodi. Duane's job with the railroad brought them to the Minnesota and Iowa; Duane was killed in a car accident. In 1990, she married Roger Hilleshiem at her home in Kansas City, MO, and they eventually settled back in the Waterville, IA area.

A very creative and artistic person, Carol worked as a florist for various places in Missouri and Iowa, including at the Waukon Greenhouse. She did a lot of interior decorating and was always repainting or redecorating a room once she got bored with it. Carol also did watercolors and oil based paintings, primarily of landscapes, as well as other crafts like working with clay and tin. There were always flowers drying throughout the house for her to use later in a project and the sewing machine would often be running, stitching together one of the many quilts she made. Currently, she and Roger were remodeling a barn into a home and decorating it with some of the many antiques they collected. Carol enjoyed baking and made great pies and loved watching John Wayne movies; The Green Berets was her favorite. Carol was an outdoorsy person as well and loved fishing, hunting, and walking in the woods. She liked growing flowers, spending time in her wild strawberry patch, and bird watching. She was a scrapper and never afraid to stand up for the underdog.

Carol is survived by her husband Roger of rural Waterville; her children: Jill (Michael) Cox of Kansas City, MO, Scott Martin of Excelsior Springs, MO, Jay Shipp of Chula, MO, and Jodi Shipp of Decorah, IA; her stepsons: Jeff (Gail) and Jon Hilleshiem, both of Waterville; grandchildren: Austin and Morgan Cox, Hunter, Hailey, Violet, Daisy, and Logan Shipp, Jessica and Emma Shipp, Amanda Schieb, Alyssa Hilleshiem, Joseff (Mary) Hilleshiem, and Mary Aarsvold; three great-grandchildren: Tenley Schieb and Ryder and Alyana Hilleshiem; one sister Jane Haeck; and three brothers: Ira and John Webb and Michael Allen.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Susanne Webb.
