Carlton "Carl" Johnson, 60, of Lansing, IA, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in rural Harpers Ferry, IA, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 21st, at 6:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, with Pastor Joanne Richmond and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Carlton Joseph Johnson was born on March 22, 1952, in Waukon, IA, the son of Victor and Cecelia (Burds) Johnson. He graduated in 1970 from St. George High School in Lansing, IA. He attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis, MN, Loras College in Dubuque, IA, Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI, and later attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA, where he received a degree in Sports Medicine. On June 10, 1978 he married Nancy Lopp at Immaculate Conception Wexford Catholic Church in rural Lansing, IA. They were later divorced. Carl farmed the Johnson family farm in Lafayette Township that has been in the family for over a century. He owned and operated The Body Shop Fitness & Rehabilitation Center in Prairie du Chien, WI, and Strawberry Point, IA. He also owned the Boondocks Marina in Lansing, where he sold gas and had boat rentals for many years. Carl also coached basketball and track at Kee High.
Carl enjoyed working on his farm, spending time on the Mississippi River boating and water skiing. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his children: Jade Johnson La Crosse, WI, Effie Johnson Colorado Springs, CO and Jacob Johnson of Farmersburg, IA; his siblings: Carolyn (Duane) Thys of Cedar Rapids, IA, Keith (Beth) Johnson Alexandria, VA, Janice (Ken) McCormick of Lansing, IA, Jeanne (Joanne Richmond) Johnson of La Crosse, WI, and Vickie (Duane) Grochowski South Saint Paul, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Elaine Johnson.
