Boyd Gahlin Groezinger was born on January 27, 1921 in Waukon, IA. He was the only child of Edward T. and Olga (Jeglum) Groezinger. Boyd's mother died when he was just six years old. After graduating from Waukon High School, Boyd joined the Merchant Marines, a part of the US Coast Guard. He served on several ships during WWII and saw the world visiting ports from Australia to Poland. On September 19, 1945 he married Audrey Dorothy DeBuhr at her parents' home in Waukon. Boyd worked at a variety of jobs following the war. He was a taxi driver, worked for REC digging holes for new high line poles, and was a plumber working with his father-in-law and brother-in-law Anton and Vic DeBuhr. He also was an Allamakee County Deputy Sherriff and janitor at the local courthouse. Boyd was best remembered for his time working for the Iowa DOT in road maintenance and snow removal, a job he held until his retirement.

Boyd was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. He was an accomplished woodworker and an artist when it came to working with stained glass. Zion Church as well as several neighbors and relatives were appreciative recipients of some of his projects in these areas. Boyd also loved to fish and over the years enjoyed numerous travels with Audrey to different parts of the country. Being with his family and grandkids was his favorite way to spend a day.
