Beulah M. Sires, 76, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 6th at 1:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Matthew Castle officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, rural Dorchester, IA. Friends may greet the family from noon until time of service on Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Beulah Mae Sires was born on May 17, 1930 in the French Creek area of rural Lansing, IA, the daughter of Clifford and Viette Sadler. After graduating from Lansing High School, she worked in the button factory in Lansing. On February 24, 1950, Beulah married Marvin Joseph "Buzz" Sires in Lancaster, MO. They moved to Oskaloosa, IA, where Beulah worked at the overall factory and as a waitress at Mart & Jeff's. She also worked with Marvin in their business, the Iowa Walnut Timber Company. They returned to Waukon in 1978 and she once again worked at the button factory in Lansing until her retirement at age 70.
Beulah enjoyed being outdoors, working in her garden and going hunting and fishing with Marvin. She also liked music and she and Marvin would often harmonize together as well as go dancing. Playing cards and following the Iowa Hawkeye basketball team were two of her other favorite pastimes. Beulah spent much of her life as a busy and dedicated mother who loved to cook for and take care of her family and was devoted to her grandchildren.
Survivors include 5 children, Gary Sires of Ft. Dodge, Linda Smith of Des Moines, Marianne (Richard) Kearney of Dubuque, Dean (Diane) Sires of Ringgold, GA and Nicole (Randy) Lawson of Waukon; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin, who died in 2002; a daughter, Sandra Pickel; 4 brothers, Arvid, Glen, Stanley and Elmer Sadler; and 2 sisters, Ruth Clinton and Laura Gruber.
