Benjamin "Bennie" D. Fiet, 88, of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA. Funeral services will be held Monday June 20th, at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Postville, IA, with Pastor Paul Snyder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM Monday at the church.
Benjamin David Fiet was born on January 8, 1923 on his grandparent's farm in Ludlow Township, rural Postville, the only child of Paul and Ruth (Shafer) Fiet. Bennie attended Ludlow School #7, where he enjoyed sleigh riding and softball and graduated from Waukon High School in 1941. He farmed in Ludlow Township his entire life raising beef cattle, hogs and grain. Bennie lived on the same farm from 1927 until 2005 when he moved to Waukon. He was a member of the Allamakee County Farm Bureau and a lifetime member of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church of which he was a former Trustee. Bennie was an avid reader spending a lot of time at the library and enjoyed farming and being around the farm animals. In the most recent years he enjoyed having coffee with his friends in town.
Survivors include cousins, friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers are Clifton and Hans Christianson, Marlin Pausch, Dennis Kloke, Larry Klocke, Wayne Kloke.
