Audrey D. Groezinger, 91, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, December 9, 2013, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services will be held at a later date in 2014. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting with arrangements.
Audrey Dorothy Groezinger was born March 3, 1922, in Saukville, WI, the daughter of Anton and Ada (Snitker) DeBuhr. Her family moved to Waukon, IA, when she was a young girl and she graduated from Waukon High School. Audrey then graduated from cosmetology school in Dubuque, IA. On September 19, 1945, she married Boyd Groezinger at her parents' home in Waukon; the ceremony was officiated by her uncle Rev. Edmund DeBuhr. For 25 years, Audrey was a beautician; she then worked for eight years at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon as a cook before retiring.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and was involved with the ladies circles. An active member of the community, Audrey was a Girl Scout leader and helped start the Waukon TASC through her involvement with Arc (adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities). She belonged to card clubs, bowling leagues, and was a member of the Toastmistress Club (a non-profit organization of public-speaking). Audrey enjoyed gardening, reading, going for walks, and traveling; she made trips to the Ozarks, Branson, Washington, D.C., and California. She loved to dance and loved her old classic movies. Audrey loved life and loved to talk and joke with everyone; she retained her sharp wit till the end. She will be remembered for enjoying love and laughter around her.
Audrey is survived by Boyd Groezinger, her husband of 68 years; two children: David Groezinger of Redwood Valley, CA, and Carol (Bob) Christianson of Waukon; four grandchildren: Brock and Lauryn Christianson, Heather (Mike) Kleiboer, and Kelly (Greg) Mahoney; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Betty DeBuhr; and two nephews: Gerry (Karen) DeBuhr and Dennis (Linda) DeBuhr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Victor DeBuhr; and son Philip Groezinger.
