Arthur C. Nelson, 81, of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 14th, at 11:00 AM at Waterville Lutheran Church in Waterville, IA, with Rev. Kris Snyder officiating. Burial with graveside military rites will be in Waterville Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Arthur Cornelius Nelson was born November 4, 1927 on the rural Waterville, IA farm of his parents, Otto Cornelius and Martha Elizabeth (Asleson) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Waterville Lutheran Church and attended the Waterville School. Arthur served as a cook in the US Army from 1952 to 1954. He farmed in rural Waterville for over 50 years with his brother, Orville. Arthur's dog Perk was at his side all the time. Arthur greatly enjoyed the time he spent with Tadd Faught and Art Cornelius. He also enjoyed having hunters hunt on his farm. He was a member of the Waterville Lutheran Church and the Harpers Ferry VFW.

Survivors include 2 brothers, Kenneth (Lee) of Clinton, IA and Howard (Irene) of Camanche, IA; 4 sisters, Alvina Sickels of Waukon, and Marjorie Nelson, Norma McFadden, and Olive (Merlin) Marohn, all of La Crosse, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Marcella and a brother Orville.

Honorary casketbearers are Wayne Knudson, Kevin Nelson, Rod Sickels, Glen and Norman Thorsen. Casketbearers are Art Cornelius, Tadd Faught, Rich and Bob Sickels, Keith Nelson and Stacy French.
