Arlene Henrietta Yearous was born May 24, 1936, in the Monona, IA area, the daughter of Grover and Hazel (Schlitter) Timmerman. She attended Waukon, IA, schools and on August 31, 1954, Arlene married Clifton Alfred Yearous at the St. Paul's United Methodist parsonage in Waukon. They farmed near Churchtown until selling the farm in 1982, and moved closer to Waukon. After Cliff died in 1997, Arlene moved into Waukon to her current home. After selling the farm, Arlene was a cook at Veterans Memorial Hospital for 31 years, retiring in 2013.
In the 1960s, Arlene was baptized into the Baptist church and had been a member of First Baptist Church in Waukon ever since; she was very active in AWANA, mission circle, and women's ministry. She was also a past member of Farm Bureau. Arlene loved sewing, crocheting, and quilting. She made lap blankets and baby blankets for her grandkids and great-grandkids, hair ties for her granddaughters, dish towels, and many other things; she taught some of her grandkids how to crochet. Arlene also loved to cook and bake; there have been many family squabbles over who gets the famous last brownie square and her cornmeal buns took 2nd place at the Iowa State Fair one year. Some of her other favorite things included playing cards, keeping track of the weather, and the color purple. She knew everyone and therefore, talked to everyone. Trips around town would take a little longer because Arlene would stop to visit and when she was at home, was usually on the phone with friends and family.
Arlene is survived by two children: Sarah Yearous of Waukon and Wade (Marcia) Yearous of Hillsboro, WI; daughter-in-law Deb Yearous of Waukon; grandchildren: Danielle (Larry) Kruse, Lacey (Rthomas) Hollenbeck, Brittany (Ryan) Demby, Steve (Rebecca) Yearous, Cliff Yearous, Elisha (Dave) Forde, Clint Yearous, Elizabeth (Jon) Halverson, and Traci Jorgenson; great-grandchildren: Cole, Devynne, Walker, and Colter Kruse, Emma, Sophie, and Ainsley Hollenbeck, Jacob, Jonathan, and Jeffrey Yearous, Sheyenne Cornelison, Nathan and Nannette Forde, Austin, Allen, and Avery Ludeking-Yearous, Hayden, Hailey, and Harper Halverson, Kadian Jorgenson, and Ryker Shaffer; and two great-great-grandchildren: Emery Yearous and Braven Yearous.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cliff; two sons: Wyatt and Clay Yearous; great-grandson Abel Ludeking-Yearous; three brothers: Duane, LaVern, and Delbert (Betty) Sr. Timmerman; and two sisters: Ruth Timmerman and Jeanette Goodnoe.
