Arlene Hazel King

October 27, 1931 — February 24, 2022

Arlene H. King, 90, of Waukon, IA, died Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 5th, at 11:00 AM at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon with Pastor Cathy Jurgens officiating. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.


Arlene Hazel King was born October 27, 1931, at the Hall Hospital in Waukon, IA, the daughter of Edward and Hazel (Turk) Hansmeier. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ. Arlene and her family lived on a farm three and half miles east of Waukon, where she attended Elk Country School through the 4th grade. Her father passed away and the family moved into town, where she then attended school. On November 19, 1949, she married Bernard King at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Arlene worked at Heimer Supervalu and Northern Engraving.


She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, where she was active in the ladies' groups. Arlene liked to make scrapbooks, do puzzles, play cards, and travel to Florida, Mexico, the Badlands, and South Dakota. Her grandson Andrew was the most important person in the world to her and she took great pride in raising him.


Survivors include her grandson Andrew King of Decorah; a niece Linda (Don) Kruse of Waukon; a great-niece Jodi (Jesse) Gaherty of Cedar Falls, IA; and a great-nephew Jamie Kruse of Monona. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bernard in 2000; son Wayne, who died in 2018; and two brothers: Wayne and Eldon (Lillian) Hansmeier.


Casketbearers are Andrew King, Randy Loeb, and Jamie Kruse.
