Arlene L. Jones, 73, of Harpers Ferry, IA, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 27th, at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, IA, with Pastor Rusty Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery, Rossville, IA. Friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Arlene Lauryane Jones was born January 17, 1935 in rural Harpers Ferry, IA, the daughter of Peter and Emma (Huffman) Fish. She attended rural country schools in the Harpers Ferry area. On August 19, 1951 she married Herman LeRoy Jones in Waukon, IA. Arlene worked for McGregor Electronics in McGregor, IA, before she went to work for Northern Engraving in Waukon where Arlene worked for many years before retiring. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. Arlene loved her dog Abby.
Survivors include her children, Harry (Sandy) of Harpers Ferry, IA; Harley (Cathi) of Marquette, IA; Henry (Elfrieda) of Harpers Ferry, IA; Herman, Jr. (Lori) of Harpers Ferry, IA; Hope (Chopper) Garin of McGregor, IA; Holly (Steve) Wagner of Lynxville, WI; Hilda (Herman) King of Marquette, IA; Heidi (Kevin) Trotter of Harpers Ferry, IA; Helen (Bob) McGeough, Waterville, IA; Howard (Trish) of Waukon Junction, IA, Hattie (Terry) Nemmers of Honolulu, HI; Heather (Grant) Nuehring of Lansing, IA, Hal (Lois) of Harpers Ferry, IA; and Hillary (Tom) Ede of Harpers Ferry, IA; 42 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Ed Young of Waterville, IA; 3 sisters-in-law, Dolores Fish of Waukon, IA, Merle Mae Fish of Wheatland, IA and Helen Sawvell of Rockford, IL and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman who died in 1982; a daughter, Harlene Young; 4 grandchildren, Timothy Johanningmeier, Clint Jones, Georgina Gates and Mark Wagner; 5 brothers, Lawrence, Raymond, Leo, Crayton and Earl Fish; and a sister-in-law, Harriet Fish.
Honorary casketbearers are Dave, Jack and Ken Fish and Ben Jones. Casketbearers are Harley, Henry, Herman, Howard, Hal and Harry Jones.
