Ardith J. Waters, 76, of Waukon, IA, died Monday, November 6, 2017, at her home in rural Waukon. Memorial services will be held Friday, November 10, 2017, at 11:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Inurnment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a 3:30 PM scripture service.
Ardith Joan Waters was born October 13, 1941, in Monona, IA, the daughter of Raymond E. and Laura (Hamann) Gress. In May of 1960, she graduated from Waukon High School. On January 10, 1962, Ardith married Donald James Waters at St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church in rural Waukon. For 39 years, Ardith worked at Northern Engraving in Waukon, where she was the lead inspector until the factory closed. Also, she ran the concession stand for Monroe Auction Service for a time. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon and belonged to the Iowa Women's Bowling Association.
She loved spending time with her family, friends, and little dog Kisses. Ardith enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetable garden, canning and freezing much of her produce for her family. She liked bowling and shooting pool, playing cards every Friday night and with family, and hunting everything from deer and squirrels to mushrooms.
Ardith is survived by her husband Donald of Waukon; children: Jeffery (Mary) Waters of Boise, ID, Bryan Waters of Waukon, Bonnie (Mark) Pitz of North Liberty, IA, and Jackie Waters and Patty (Jerry Jr.) Payton, both of Buffalo, IA; grandchildren: Zachary and Trevor Waters, Tiffany (Justin) Redmond, Stacy (Ryan) Cullen, Mitchell and Lacey Kubik, Alex Pitz, Misty (Steve) Cox, and Jerry Payton III; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her brothers: Dean (Carol) Gress of McGregor, IA, Ed (Susie) Gress and Gary Gress, both of Waukon, and Jim (Joann) Duvel of Postville, IA.
She was preceded in death by her father Raymond Gress; her mother Laura Duvel; stepfather Lloyd Duvel; and sister-in-law Dorothy Gress.
Honorary casketbearers are Ardith's grandchildren.
